Family holidays in the Dordogne

The Dordogne area of France is perhaps one of the most popular inland regions in France for a family holiday.  Situated in the west of France, just east of Bordeaux, this area is famous for it’s incredible scenic countryside and river gorges. There are also many opportunities to explore caves with prehistoric wall art and an amazing range of artefacts.

It suits families looking for a more scenic holiday with plenty of options to explore.  The towns of the Dordogne, such as Sarlat and Perigueux, are simply gorgeous, with their medieval town centres and beautifully decorated flower displays.

Cycle routes (‘Voies Vertes’ ) and thousands of well signed footpaths give families the chance to explore the French countryside and find the heartbeat of rural France. There are also plenty of activities on the Dordogne river itself, including canoeing, kayaking, boat trips, fishing and water skiing.
