Canal du MidiBest Attractions in the Languedoc  Although the Languedoc Roussillon region is best known for its splendid Mediterranean coastline, travel a little inland and you will find a totally different character with plenty to add a bit of variety to the ubiquitous bucket and spade holiday.  Not only will you find beautiful scenery such as the rolling Corbières hills, the Parc National de Haut Languedoc, or the Pyrénéean mountains, but there is also incredible history to be found with the medieval fortress town of Carcassonne and the dramatically situated Cathar castles.

Trying to find our way at the Jardin d'ArianeAccessible for small children's pushchairs, nothing bigger.Le Jardin d’Ariane Maze

Location: Between Perpignan and the coast - on the D11 heading north from Sainte Marie Village towards Torreilles.

General Info:  2006: Open daily from 5th July – 3rd September, 2PM – 8PM.  Last admission at 6.30PM.  Tel: 04 68 80 47 50.

Description:  A traditional corn maze based around the theme of the air mail service.  Tthis one was particularly well built and you really could get lost although the theme is lightweight.

Our recommendations:  Don’t try this without a reasonable grasp of French.  If you go for it, persevere - sometimes the answers to the puzzles are much easier to find than you realise!  It is estimated to take 1.5 hours but our experience was that 2.5 was a better estimate (maybe because of our poor French!).  Make sure everyone has sun tan lotion applied before setting out!  Because mazes move on from time to time, call ahead to check it is still operating.

For the children:  For younger children try the nearby Labyrinthe Aux 1000 Fleurs, follow the D612 off the N9 in direction of Thuir and follow signposts.
