Kids Favourites in the Lot-et-Garonne & Tarn
This is a truly fascinating region in that
it hides some real gems for the family and yet is so much more
un-discovered than its famous neighbour, the Dordogne. Admittedly
it doesn't have the high density of attractions that you can find in the
Dordogne, yet it has some splendid family favourites that even our
youngest children fondly recall!
The following are our all time
favourites and are well worth a visit. But there are many other
attractions that the region offers, as well as possibilities such as
relaxing days at a Base de Loisir - perfect for the hottest summer days
when all the kids want is to cool off and splash around in
water......and all you want to do is soak up the sun with a glass of
wine in hand, un-disturbed by the youngsters!
1.
Tepacap. What a wonderful creation
these "Tarzan" adventure parks are. Ideally suited to the sunny
south of France, they offer a fantastic way for the children to burn off
some energy in a safe and well supervised environment. And parents
are welcome to join in the fun as well - if they have the stamina!
Younger ones are well catered for with a smaller kids zone. Sadly
when we went here it was near the end of our holiday in Gascony.....if
we'd been able to, the kids would definitely have taken us back!
2.
L'Azinet Donkey Rides. A surprising choice maybe yet our
younger children loved this place, being able to care for the donkeys as
well as riding them. And with the possibility of a visit to their
small farm afterwards. And for the older ones there is the
possibility of a trip on a horse drawn carriage if they don't fancy the
donkeys! Real value for money this one!
3.
The
Walibi Theme Park -
fun for all ages. Not the cheapest attraction though so we
recommend to arrive early and spend the day there. Plan to have an
easier day the next day as you will want time to rest weary legs!
4.
Canoeing - In this region you are
completely spoilt for choice with the number of rivers to choose from.
However, we recommend that you carefully read our section on canoeing as
not all rivers are suitable for young children and older children may
find little interest in the more gentle options.
5.
Cazals
Open Air Museum. A converted old chateau with lots of space to
explore.
6.
Larresingle medieval village. Fascinating for adults, interesting
for the children. And very well preserved. You can make a
short trip if you just want to browse around the small shops in the
village. Or an extended trip if you take in the museum and real
life exhibition of medieval fighting machinery. And the
conveniently located
Auberge de Larressingle offers splendid lunches on its terrace.
