Location: The Pic du Midi cable car leaves from La Mongie on the D918 to the South of Lourdes.

General Info:  Website: www.picdumidi.com.  The cable car leaves every 15 minutes and costs €25 (adult) / €15 (child) in peak season.  In high season a family of four can travel for €65, €10 each additional child.  Visits last 2 hours, plus the cable car ride of 15 minutes.

Description:  This cable car takes you on a dramatic ride to the Pic du Midi du Bigorre, a mountain of nearly 3000m which dominates the northern edge of the central Pyrénées.

La MongieOur recommendations: It’s quite expensive to take a family on the cable car so we would advise that you make a day of it.  There’s a café at the summit, as well as an interesting observatory, visitor centre and museum.  To save money you can drive to the Col du Tourmalet and then walk to the summit.  Take care to ensure you are equipped for the weather!

For the children:  They'll love the cable car ride & browsing tourist shops in La Mongie.
