St Malo, Brittany

St Malo, Brittany

Description: The outskirts aren’t so attractive; however, once you arrive in the old town you will be enchanted by the place. The city walls were heavily bombed during WWII but they have been completely restored and you can walk all the way around the old town atop them. Inside the walls there are a wide range of tourist shops to be browsed and restaurants to be savoured.

Location: You’ll find St Malo 70km north of Rennes on the N137. Plenty of parking is available around the outside of the town walls although it does get busy in season.

General Info: Office du Tourisme

Our recommendation: The walk around the walls of St Malo’s old town will take around an hour depending on how often you stop to see the views (and there are plenty!).

For the children: Take a rucksack with some things for the beach as there are some lovely beaches you can access on the north side. The aquarium is worth a visit and offers a touch and feel area for the brave!
