Description: Vannes is a very pleasant town situated on the edge of the incredible Golfe du Morbihan,  an inland sea and sailing metropolis, famous for its oyster farms.

Location: In the south east of Brittany, adjacent to the Golfe du Morbihan.

Our recommendations: As with many medieval towns, it is much better to park the car and walk around, although the hordes of tourists in peak season can be off-putting. A guided tour from the tourist office is a good idea as there is so much to see. If you want to see the inland sea then there are several boat trips available from the marina.

For the children: The Vannes aquarium is worth a visit.  Also of interest is the Musée des Automates (19th century mechanical toys) and la Papillonneraie (Butterfly house).  Vannes is particularly fun to visit at the end of July when the town celebrates its Jazz Festival.
