Description: A small tannery where the leaves of Isatis Tinctoria are converted into the blue dye known in the English speaking world as ‘woad’. The whole extraction process can be seen in the workshops with explanations provided on a free guided tour. These tours are in French, although English is also spoken, so do ask!

Location: On the southern outskirts of Lectoure on the D7 road to Condom (about 2km west of N21).

General Information: Website  Tel No: (0)5 62 68 78 30. Opening times – Mon-Sat 10.00-12.30 and 14.00-18.30.  Sundays and Bank Hols – pm only. Closed Mondays in Jan and Feb.

Our recommendations: This visit, while fascinating and with a shop selling lots of products ranging from clothes and fashion accessories to art products like ink and artists paints, will possibly not captivate younger children. However as the tour is relatively short and definitely of interest to adults it is worth making a trip provided the children have something for ‘them’ to look forward to.
