Description: Les Baux-de-Provence is a marvellous village set in Les Alpilles, in a spectacular clifftop setting with vertical ravines on both sides. This is one of Les Beaux Villages de France and is well worth a stroll through the town which is bursting with tourist shops, boutiques and art galleries – at the top you will find the ruins of the original fortified town and castle (entrance fee payable). Just to the north of the town on the D27 there is a delightful viewpoint looking back over Les Baux.

Location: Les Baux is 8km south west of St Rémy-de-Provence.

Our recommendations: Whilst you are at Les Baux why not visit a vineyard – see our wine section for recommendations on a vineyard just outside Les Baux. Daudet’s windmill just outside Fontvieille is worth a detour. Also recommended is the nearby Cathédrale d’Images for the Son et Lumière show. And if you are in this area during the last weekend of August, try a visit to Fontvieille to see the bull fights in the local arena. This is a colourful and fun event which can be enjoyed by the whole family.

For the children: Take good care of them as there are some sharp drops here.
