Description: Le Petit Train d’Artouste provides splendid views of some of the highest Pyrénéean peaks at a height of 2000m. To reach the train you take a 10 minute cable car ride from the Lac de Fabrèges.

Location: 60km south of Pau, near Gabas on the D934.

General Info: The train runs from late May to late September. In July and August it runs from 9.00am to 5.00pm, and until 3.00pm at other times. Advance booking is advisable.

Our recommendations: The train ride takes about 50 minutes and it’s then a short walk to the Lac d’Artouste. We’re told that in peak season you are only able to stay at the top for about 1 ½ hours. There is also a chair lift up the Ours mountain that runs in July and August. If bought with your train ticket this is €1 more.

For the children: This is a lovely trip for the kids, if a bit popular. Make sure you take some warm clothes in a rucksack as the weather and temperature can change suddenly at this height.
