Massif de L’Esterel, South of France

Description: A really beautiful regional park in the south of France with beautiful views and lots of wildlife all with the backdrop of the remarkable red coloured rocky outcrops. There are numerous family friendly tours you can follow by car, bicycle (if fit!) or on foot. The picture is of the coastline where the red coloured rock of the Massif finally reaches the sea.

Location: The Esterel Massif is off the N7 travelling north from Fréjus.

Our recommendations: For spectacular views, take a trip to the top of Mont Vinaigre. You can go almost all the way to the top by car.  But beware, this drive is not for those of a nervous disposition!

For the children: Take a swimming costume and enjoy one of the mountain lakes – these are usually pleasurably warm in the summer. Lac de St Cassien is worth a detour to the north if you are looking for more water based activities.
