Description: Mont Vinaigre reaches to only 618m but has a dramatic setting as the highest point in the Massif, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and in the distance you get fine views of Cannes.
Location: In the centre of the Massif de l’Esterel, just north of Fréjus and accessible by road off the N7.
Our recommendations: It’s possible to drive nearly all the way to the top and it’s probably worth doing as it is a long way by minor roads to the summit. On the other hand this is not a drive for the faint hearted as it has some sharp drops alongside the road! The last ten minutes of gentle climb must be done on foot.
For the children: Why not make a day of it and hire bikes in St Raphael or Agay and then spend the day cycling in the massif? It is a hard slog to the top of Mont Vinaigre, but exhilarating to reach it!
