Entrevaux, South of France

Description: Entrevaux is a fantastic example of a walled town reached by a drawbridge. With the exception of the town square, the whole village is traffic free and the maze of narrow, winding passageways make exploring great fun for inquisitive children.

Location: Approximately 50 minutes (60km) inland from Nice along the N202.

Our recommendations:  There is a small museum and free motor-bike museum that are worth visiting although they won’t entertain the children for long.  The village is very quiet outside the peak summer weeks, so if you visit outside this time you will find many restaurants are closed.

For the children: There’s a steam train leaving Puget-Théniers and arriving at Entrevaux  20 minutes later. The running dates vary – further information can be found on the steam train section of the Chemin de Fer de Provence website.
