Provins World Heritage Town

Description: Provins World Heritage Town is one of the best preserved Medieval towns in France with plenty to entertain. There are some splendid reconstructed buildings, walls and parapets to walk round, excellent displays and various shows with names such as The Legend of the Knights, The Battle of the Ramparts and Horsemen of the Steppes.

Location: 1 hour SE from the centre of Paris, off the N19.

General Info: Family passport available for €27* allowing entrance to the 4 major monuments. This also gives reduced prices for the shows.

Website: http://www.provins.net/, tel: 0(1) 64 60 26 26.

Our recommendations: For older children book a guided tour through the tourist office. Otherwise pick and choose which sites to visit. We all had fun in ‘Caesar’s Tower’ especially when the bell struck the hour!! In June, check out the dates of the Medieval festival for some spectacular entertainment. A highlight must be a visit to one of the shows. Our children thoroughly enjoyed ‘The Legend of the Knights’ (in French!).

For the children: There is a 45 minute train ride around the medieval part of the town.
