Puy de Fou Theme Park, France

Puy de Fou

Description: The Grand Parc du Puy du Fou is a live action theme park dedicated to the history of France – fascinating and definitely worth a detour. Created in 1978 in the granite hills of the Vendéean Haut Bocage by Philippe de Villiers, it now welcomes more than 1.7 million visitors annually. Visitors can also book the Cinéscenie, a spectacular performance by more than 1000 actors, which takes place on selected Friday and Sunday nights.

Shows: Puy du Fou is made up of a series of spectacular live action shows.

The Lovers of Verdun
Over the course of the love letter correspondence of a soldier and his fiancée, plunge yourself into the heart of winter, in a snowy trench, and meet some heroic soldiers.  On Christmas eve, fumes invade the trenches, the ground trembles with each new explosion, alarms ring out… Everything seems lost, but on the 24 December 1916 these soldiers do not yet know that they are going to experience a Christmas that they will never ever forget!

The Phantom Birds’ Dance:  a grand ballet featuring kites, pelicans, storks and marabous birds or prey.

The Secret of the Lance: a spectacular medieval adventure that takes place within a castle at the height of battle.

The Vikings: Tremble at the sight of these terrifying northern warriors launching a fearsome attack on the peaceful, thatch-roofed Fort de l’An Mil.

In between shows you can enjoy gentler pleasures:

The Market Town in 1900: Relive the unique atmosphere of the Belle Epoque and wander around the main square lined with beautiful shops, a covered market and authentic cafe.

The Medieval City: venture into the fortified enclosure of the Medieval City with its charming, finely detailed realism to discover the rich heritage of the Middle Ages and lost expertise of master craftsmen.

The 18th Century Village: wander down the narrow streets paying a visit to the vegetable garden, the wash house and the barn.

General Info: The park is open from April to September. Open times vary depending on the date and the Cinéscenie spectaculars take place on selected evenings – see the Puy du Fou calendar of opening times for latest information.
