Description

Chalet Mirador is a modern chalet style gîte in the French Pyrenees, situated above the village of St Béat, at c.600 metres, with panoramic views over the valley and of the high peaks beyond.  This location is perfect for a relaxing break away from it all, with summer sun, winter skiing and walking plus other outdoor adventure activities all year round.

The accommodation for hire in the Pyrenees offers:

  • 3 bedrooms plus a double sofa bed in the lounge, sleeping up to 8
  •  Large living room with central open fire place, piano and book collection!
  • Sun terrace
  • Large private garden with fruit trees
  • Well equipped kitchen

The chalet

Accommodation for 8 persons as follows: two double bedrooms, one twin bedroom, one double sofabed in the sejour (living room).

The front double bedrooms great views over the valley. A French window opens onto a balcony above the sun terrace.   The back double bedroom also has lovely views over the garden and forested hillside beyond the house. A French window provides access to the top terrace of the garden near the washing line and fig tree.   The third bedroom is a twin room on the ground floor.

The Living room area offers a comfortable space with a large sofa and sofabed, coffee tables, small desk, TV/DVD, and CD/Cassette/Radio player. There is a large enclosed fireplace with chimney rising through the middle of the room. Logs are available for the fire in the winter. Two double patio doors open onto the sun terrace.

The dining room area seats eight comfortably, with a rise and fall light over the table (unless you prefer candlelight!).

Anyone musical?  The upright piano has a supply of mainly classical music in the piano stool. Next to the piano is a bookcase with jigsaws as well as a range of reading for adults and older children.

The kitchen is equipped with gas cooker, fridge freezer, microwave oven, electric kettle, toaster, coffee filter machine, together with crockery, cutlery and glassware for eight. Cleaning materials, fire extinguisher, and first aid kit are stored under the sink; basic foodstuffs such as salt, cooking oil and herbs are usually in stock. The kitchen looks out to the garden and the stone barbecue.

Petit Chalet: This older part of the building opens off the sun terrace. Here you will find the washing machine, garden furniture and indoor washing lines.

The terrace and garden

The paved terrace in front of the house facing south east, with superb views across the valley. There is a stone table, and chairs are stored in the petit chalet. An electric sunshade is available for shade on the hottest days.

The local area

The local Ski resorts here have plenty to offer.  Baqueira/Beret: altitude 1500-2510 metres; 47 pistes giving 77 kilometres of marked piste.  Superbagnères, Luchon: altitude 1440-2260 metres; 23 pistes. Peyragudes: altitude 1600-2400 metres; 39 pistes. Le Mourtis: altitude 1350-1860 metres; 22 downhill pistes, plus 45 kilometres of ski du fond.

There is lots of local walking.  Paths from the house lead directly up into the mountains, with a public footpath only 100 metres away, leading to the GR10 which runs along the whole length of the Pyrenees. The lovely Val d’Aran is just over the Spanish border.  The owners can supply a range of suggested walking routes nearby which we have enjoyed.

St Béat is an attractive village with shops, Tourist Information Centre, swimming pool and tennis courts. The river Garonne flows through the village. Bagnères de Luchon is a major spa town with all amenities, and is a popular destination for tourists, considered one of the most stylish towns in the Pyrenees. St Gaudens is the major town north of St Béat, with all major supermarkets, etc. St Bertrand de Comminges is a delightful medieval village of historic interest, situated between St Gaudens and St Béat.

Rock climbing, mountain biking, paragliding, fishing, white water rafting, horseriding are available in the area.
