Description

Chez Sibert is a traditional Charentaise villa, with heated pool. It has four double bedrooms and can sleep 8, with room for 2 extra children. The house was professionally modernised in 2015 to provide a comfortable, all year round holiday home. The traditional 150 year old house is designed to be cool in summer and warm in the winter, and well equipped for you to enjoy your stay. There is so much to do and see whatever the season.

The Charente-Maritime is renowned for its micro-climate. This provides long periods of sunshine, second only to the French Riviera. This usually lasts from March to October, with warm days at both ends of the season, and even the winters can be mild.

Situated on a small hill above the Charente valley in the ancient province of Saintonge, the property is surrounded by vineyards planted to get the maximum sun possible – these produce the grapes for the famous cognac and delicious local fortified wine called pineau.

The vines are edged by small woods which attract a variety of wildlife. For example from the garden you can see deer walking through vines in the morning, watch buzzards wheeling above, listen to the crickets, or a nightingale in the evening and hear the extraordinary call of a golden oriole. The garden catches the sun all day long, with huge expanses of sky to really appreciate the weather, bird life, or perhaps gaze at the stars at night. Close by, running through the wood, is evidence of the Via Agrippa roman road which ran between Saintes and Lyons.

The peaceful location is at the end of a no through road but is only 15 minutes from Cognac and 20 minutes from Saintes.

Even though the house is a traditional design, the property has been equipped for modern living including four fully modernised bathrooms, heating and double glazing. There is WiFi, Sky television, French television, and charging sockets for mobile devices.

We wanted our house to be a home away from home, we enjoy cooking and being comfortable, so the house is equipped to a higher standard than normal gites. In the kitchen you will find plenty of equipment, china and pans, as well as a range of recipe books. The kitchen is designed for ease of use with a large larder fridge, freezer, dishwasher, wine cooler, induction hob, extractor hood, as well as other small appliances. The indoor dining table extends to comfortably seat the whole party although you will probably eat outside most of the time. If requested a high chair can be provided. The living room has enough comfortable seating for the whole party. There are family DVDs, indoor games for children and adults, novels, a piano, and a Hi-Fi with iPod connections.

Upstairs the flexible bed arrangements use hotel-quality zip link mattresses. You are provided with king-sized or single duvets according to your booking details and accommodation configuration. Quality linen, with a mid-stay change for fortnight rentals, is provided. There is a discount if you provide your own linen and towels. A travel cot can be provided on request. the downstairs bedroom is easy access, so the house is friendly for those less able.

Outside there are plenty of table and dining chairs, as well as enough sunbeds for the whole group and a range of parasols. There are outdoor and pool games.  There is a large kettle barbecue with the necessary cooking equipment.

The attractive fenced garden is flat and secure for children and pets, offering views across the vines and plenty of different areas to relax in, whether you want sun or shade. The secure pool area is a delightful private sun trap; the heated pool is 8m x 4m and a uniform depth of 1.5m. The pool is available for use from 1st June to 30th September, or by arrangement at other times. The flat lawns allow outdoor games and activities. Guests are welcome to help themselves to cherries, peaches and greengages from the fruit trees.  The drive, within the garden, allows parking for at least three cars, and includes a shaded car port that also houses the table tennis table.

The pool and garden are maintained on a regular basis.
