It has an open plan living room, dining room and kitchenette (equipped with a two ring hob, multifunction oven/microwave, dishwasher and all the necessary kitchenware) which open onto a partly covered terrace with barbecuing facilities. Le Chêne caters for 4 people with one double bedroom, one bunk bedroom and separate bathroom and toilets.
It’s an easy stroll into St.Pompon, a 14th centre village with a maze of little alleys, cafes and restaurants. Have a drink on the square and fine meal in l’Envie de Mets.
For the more sporty, there are plenty of cycling and mountain biking routes in the local area. Take a bike ride along the designated cycle track to the 10th century Château de Castelnaud. Kayak down the Dordogne river passing the stunning sites of La Roque Gageac, Castelnaud and Beynac to name but a few. Cournet-Haut has a large range of bikes (with baby seats if needed) free to use for all of our guests. We have a selection of custom made maps marking suggested cycles all of which depart from Cournet-Haut. We also offer two electric bikes, available to rent – you’ll never be afraid to cycle up a hill again!
If you fancy a hike, there are many marked walkways departing from Cournet-Haut, ranging from 30 minute walks to 6 – 7 hour hikes, so there is something for all levels of fitness. For those of you who enjoy running, your host Alan is an avid cross-country and trail runner, and is always at hand to suggest routes depending on your level of fitness.
A visit to the Dordogne wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the world famous Lascaux and our local ‘capital’ Sarlat.
