Description

La Grange is a spacious gîte in a stunning barn conversion, in a tranquil, rural setting.  This area of central France is great for relaxing but also for a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, road cycling, mountain biking, swimming and trail running.

La Grange – Ground Floor

The glass front door opens into the spacious open plan, triple aspect living room with vaulted cathedral ceiling. Stairs lead up to a mezzanine, which has been constructed in new oak.

There is a new fitted kitchen and spacious dining area. The kitchen has all modern appliances including a SMEG electric oven and gas hob with extractor hood, an American-style refrigerator with large fridge and freezing sections which provide cold water and ice cubes on request, an integrated dishwasher and washing machine and a Nespresso coffee-machine which works with all ‘Nespresso’ or compatible pods.

The enormous monastery style oak table separates the kitchen from the living area. Oak chairs ensure there is plenty of room should you choose to eat inside.  A highchair can be provided on request.

With the kitchen and dining area on one side, the rest of the room is taken up with a huge, gloriously comfortable, squashy sofa seating four and two large comfy armchairs.

There is a TV with English ‘Freesat’, a DVD player with a selection of DVD’s and a music box with iPhone docking / Bluetooth. English sockets are available for charging phones and cameras etc. A bookcase holds a selection of books and maps and guides.

Open style stairs lead to the mezzanine level. There is ample under stair storage. A stairgate will be fitted on request. Road bikes may be kept inside under the stairs.

Bedrooms
There are two bedrooms, one leading from the living area under the mezzanine and one up on the mezzanine level accessed via the stairs.

Each room is simply furnished, showing off the original features. In each room there is a double and a single bed, with bedside tables and lamps. All beds have high quality English mattresses.

If the room is not required as a twin room the single bed is made up as a sofa – an ideal place to lie and read! The beds are fully made up with quality duvets, pillows and linen. Additional blankets are available in cooler months.
There is ample storage including hanging space and plenty of sockets. A hairdryer is provided in each room.

A travelcot can be provided on request.

Bathrooms
There are two shower rooms, one opposite the bedroom and one en-suite up on the mezzanine. Each has a Hansgrohe shower with glass screen, toilet and hand basin. A heated towel rail ensures lovely warm towels!

Heating
The whole barn has under-floor heating powered by our huge wood boiler. For any unexpected cooler days and in the months either side of summer the under-floor heating will be on and everywhere will be toasty and warm.

The barn is well insulated by its half-metre thick granite walls. The latest technical insulating materials in the roof keep it warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot!

Entertainment
There is a TV with English ‘Freesat’ box. There is a DVD player with a selection of DVD’s and a sound system with iPhone docking/Bluetooth.

There is free wi-fi.  There is very limited ‘bandwidth’ here, and you will find the wi-fi has the same pace of life as everything in France. It is fine for checking emails (which you should not be doing as you are on holiday!) or looking at websites.

Garden and outside
The large paved terrace is accessed from inside through the bi-fold doors or from outside. There are  deck chairs, wooden dining chairs and a table on the terrace and a parasol for shade.
Steps lead down to the private and enclosed courtyard garden and a gate leads out onto the field. A washing line, clothes airer and pegs are available.

You are more than welcome to use the field, either to stroll around or to sit under any of the huge trees, which offer ample shade at the height of the day. Marked paths lead round the woods and you are welcome to wander through them.

There is a ‘chemin’ or track, which leads from our hamlet, past our woods and down to the lake – Lac de Barriousses.

Parking and garages
There is ample off road parking for two large cars. Our lane is ‘no through’ and just goes to us and down beyond to the other two houses that make up our tiny hamlet of ‘La Manigne’.

There is hardly ever any traffic; the post lady comes most days and every morning our farmer neighbour arrives to check his cows in the fields across the lane. Other than that….nothing apart from an occasional mountain biker!

Local Attractions

Situated in the undiscovered region of Corrèze, on the western edge of the Massif Central we are surrounded by the rivers, lakes and forests of the ‘Parc naturel régional de Millevaches en Limousin’. Traversed by a huge network of pathways the moorlands, meadows, woodlands and rivers remain totally unspoilt. It offers a tranquil retreat and a haven for wildlife.
