Beautifully renovated Provence watermill with heated, enclosed pool in a peaceful setting. Large, partly enclosed grounds with flat lawn. Air-con throughout. Avignon 17 km.

This former watermill has been lovingly renovated and oozes Provencal charm throughout. The large garden where children can play safely, and the large fenced private pool (heated from April to October) make this property a real attractive prospect for large families or large group of friends with children wanting to holiday together.

Once a Provence watermill in the 1800’s, the Mas du Moulin de Sorgue still retains its wheel, standing proudly next to the house. While preserving its authenticity the property has all modern facilities including wi-fi and air conditioning throughout. In addition, the large, partly enclosed grounds are beautifully landscaped. The enclosed, heated pool is a real gem from which you can thoroughly enjoy the views on the garden. Around the pool you can pick your spot whether you are looking to bask in the sun or stay in the shade in the pool house or under the covered pergola.

Located in a peaceful, countryside setting, 17km to the north of the beautiful and historic city of Avignon and just over 2km from restaurants, bars, bakeries, small supermarkets etc. The property is ideal for holidaying with several families. With five air-conditioned main bedrooms, three of which have adjoining children’s bedrooms with a private bathroom each, the house can sleep up to ten adults and five children under twelve. Two of the five double beds can also be split up into twin beds on request.

As with all typical Provencal houses, the property comes with its all-important petanque court but it also comes with a covered games shelter with a table tennis table and table football table. And of course, one of the highlights of this property is the outdoor covered terrace with Virginia Creeper. A splendid and relaxing spot for dining al fresco and cooking on the gas plancha while sipping a glass of local wine.

If you’re a wine lover then this is the area for you! The Mas is set right in the heart of the four icons of Rhone valley’s wine area: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Beaume de Venise, Gigondas and Vacqueyras. With superb, picturesque villages and excellent wineries to discover you will be absolutely spoilt for choice. The region produces some amazing deep-coloured red wines, fine and elegant white wines but also some wonderfully refreshing and fruity rosés. And of course, there is the unmissable sweet Muscat des Beaumes de Venise. A stunning dessert wine that has been grown in this region for 2000 years.

There is easy access to the motorway which allows you to discover several famous towns in Provence such as Avignon, Orange, Saint Rémy de Provence, Arles and Aix en Provence, all within an hour’s drive. From Entraigues village (2.5 km) you can take a train to Avignon (journey time just 15 minutes). Walks and bike rides are also possible from the property.

ACCOMMODATION

Living area

45m². Very spacious open plan living room with two seating areas with sofas, fireplace (not in use), TV, DVD player and hi-fi. Air-conditioning. French doors to garden. Two steps down to dining area with table and chairs.

 

Kitchen

25m². Kitchen opening onto the dining room and the outdoor terrace. Lacanche oven with five gas rings, gas oven and electric oven. Two dishwashers, microwave, two fridges, freezer, kettle, coffee machine, toaster, washing machine, iron and ironing board.

 

Bedrooms

All five double bedrooms have air-conditioning and adjoining bathrooms or shower rooms. Three of the five bedrooms are family bedrooms with double beds and an adjoining children’s bedroom, and two bedrooms are standard double bedrooms.

First floor

Bedroom 1 & 2: Family bedroom. Opens to a small entrance with three doors leading to the main double bedroom with a four-poster double bed (140cm x 190cm). Children’s bedroom with bunk bed (upper bed is not suitable for children under six years old. Adjoining bathroom.
Bedroom 3: Bedroom with Queen size bed (160cm x 200cm) which can be divided into two single beds on request. En suite shower room.
Bedroom 4 & 5: Family bedroom with Queen size bed (160cm x 200cm). Small adjoining children’s bedroom (separated with a door from main bedroom) with two camp beds (both 80cm x 180cm) for children under ten years old. Door from children’s bedroom to adjoining shower room.

Second floor

Bedroom 6: Bedroom with Queen size bed (160cm x 190cm) which can be divided into two single beds on request. Additional child’s bed (under ten) located between the bedroom and the adjoining shower room.

Bedroom 7 & 8: Family bedroom with Queen size bed (160cm x 200cm). Small adjoining children’s bedroom (separated with a door from the parent’s bedroom) with two camp beds (one 80cm x 180cm and another 75cm x 165cm). Door from children’s bedroom to adjoining bathroom.

Young children can play in all safety in the entirely enclosed garden in front of the terrace.

Changeover Day

  • Changeover day is Saturday (April to end of May and October non Saturday arrivals/ departures may be considered).
  • Check-in is between 4pm and 8pm.  Late arrivals can be arranged but must be requested at least a month in advance.  Check-out is before 10.00am

Included in the Rent

  • Bed linen, towels (does not include pool towels). Bed linen change for two week booking half-way through the stay is available at an additional cost.  Please ask for details.
  • Water and electricity including pool heating and air conditioning.
  • End of stay cleaning.  The property and grounds should be left clean and tidy, or a charge may apply.

Other Charges

  • Obligatory charges payable on arrival:
  • Security deposit of 400€ or £350 payable in cash on arrival and refunded on departure providing there are no damages to the property.
  • Holiday Tax (taxe de sejour):  The amount may vary from one year to another, please ask at the time of booking.

  • The discrete owners live on-site in a separate property with an independent entrance.  Only the driveway to the house and the car park are shared.

Avignon (17 km)

Avignon, on the banks of the Rhone, is probably best-known these days for the children’s song – Sur le Pont d’Avignon.  But for several decades in the 14th century, it was the capital of Christendom, after Pope Clement V moved his court here to avoid the chaos in Rome.  The legacy of that papal schism can be seen today in the city’s UNESCO protected architecture, including the vast Palais de Pape.  And nearby Châteaneuf-du-Pape, site of a now ruined castle built by a later pope, still produces acclaimed red wines.  The city’s intact ramparts and pedestrianised centre lend Avignon a small-town, medieval feel.  Yet each July, the city goes totally 21st century, as thousands of visitors descend for a contemporary performing arts extravagancy, the Festival d’Avignon.

L’Isle sur la Sorgue (20 km)

L’Isle sur la Sorgue is a pretty market town, much loved for its antique shops and twice weekly markets.  Once an important fishing town, with an abundance of crayfish in the River Sorgue, there are several canals running through the centre.  Perhaps, unsurprisingly, the town has been called the Venice of Provence.  The river has influenced the development of the town, providing for thriving crafts and industries, flour mills, wool and silk workshops.  Many of the waterwheels remain adding to the picturesque charm of the town.  Each Sunday there is quite a carnival atmosphere with a flea market, regarded as the best antique markets in France (Thursday is normal market day).

Orange (21 km)

Orange is the gateway into Provence.  This Roman city is incredibly rich in history, from its Celtic fortifications to its remarkable quality Roman monuments including the Roman amphitheatre and the Arc de Triomphe, both listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.  Other sites of interest include the ruins of temples on the Saint Eutrope Hill, the city walls, the aqueduct and the western wall of the forum.

Fontaine de Vaucluse (28 km)

Once a place of pilgrimage, Fontaine de Vaucluse is a lovely and popular village located right at the foot of a cliff.  This very impressive spring comes to light at Fontaine de Vaucluse where it forms a large emerald green pool 308m deep.  While it may look like a pool it is a fully-fledged river with its source underground.  With 200 cubic metres of water per second, it is the largest natural spring in France and the fifth largest in the world.  There are also plenty of attractions to keep visitors of all ages interested with underground grottos and stalactites at the Musée du Monde Souterrain (Museum of the Underground World).

Les Dentelles de Montmirail (29 km)

The Dentelles de Montmirail is a 5 mile stretch of limestone mountain in the department of Vaucluse.  The name Dentelle (lace) comes from its shape with its peaks and needles reminiscent of lace.  These mountains fit in superb harmony with the landscapes and the countless rows of grapevines cultivated on the surrounding land.  The highest point is the Crête de Saint-Amand, at an altitude of 734 metres.  For nature lovers this is a sight to behold!  One and around the Dentelles you will find many hiking trails, mountain bike circuits through forest, rocks and vineyards, rock climbing and of course the famous Routes de Vins (Wine Road) that takes you through the charming villages of the famous Côtes du Rhône vineyards such as Vacqueyras, Gigondas or Beaumes-de-Venise to name but a few.

Saint Rémy de Provence (36 km)

St Rémy de Provence is an ancient Roman city with a temple, a marketplace, and ruins including the Glanum archaeological site which is well worth a detour.  St Rémy is an elegant and rather understated town with gorgeous boutiques, shops, local businesses and bistros and café scene.  There are also several art galleries and many arts festivals in the town throughout the year.  Saint Rémy de Provence has a deep connection to the artist Vincent Van Gogh where he created some of his most famous paintings such as the Irises, The Starry Night and Van Gogh self-portrait.  You can even do a walk in the footsteps of Van Gogh in Saint Rémy.

Pont du Gard (42 km)

The Pont du Gard is a famous Roman aqueduct, UNESCO World Heritage Site and icon of the south of France.  It supplies water to Nimes for over five centuries, however by the 9th century it has started to fall into ruin.  Much of the aqueduct is still in tact today and it is a remarkable site.  Nearly 300m long and almost 50m high it comprises three levels of arches, progressively narrower at each level.  Visitors can walk across the aqueduct to appreciate both the architectural achievement and the great views from the top.  There is also a mile long marked trail around the site so you can see the river and bridge from all angles.

Parc Naturel Regional du Luberon

This is a region of stunning natureal beauty with superb, varied scenery and outstanding views.  To the north your will find the wild mountain scenery of the Vaucluse hills and famous Mont Ventoux.  To the south the amazing oak and pine covered slopes of the Luberon mountains.  The Luberon valley is dotted with veinyards, cherry orchards and lavender fields enhanced by stunning hill-top villages.  This region is also renowned for its quality restaurants and locally produced fruit, cheeses, honey and many other irrestible delights.  You will also find many very good local vineyard producing excellent Cotes du Luberon and Cotes de Ventoux with tastings available at the small Domaines as well as the two big Cave Cooperatives.  Colourful Provencal fabrics and beautiful table linen are also available in the charming local markets along with a large variety of pottery.  Several villages have art galleries where you can view and buy from local artists.
