Wonderful Provencal property mixing traditional and modern features. The house, renovated in 2011, is built on two levels that can accommodate up to 10 adults, 2 children and a baby. The property has a distinct charm running through it with exposed beams, Provencal stones and tiles. The spaciousness of the property along with the large grounds make it an excellent choice for a family holiday.
The gated entrance leads you to the house through a row of lovely bushes, trees, and fragrant lavender. On arrival, you will be enchanted by the wonderful courtyard and garden dotted with features including two fountains and two horse statues seemingly fighting each other. There are also several covered and uncovered terraces with garden furniture and to the side of the house the wonderful overflow pool and terrace where no doubt lots of happy memories await. The pool side and enormous pool house are ideal for enjoying al fresco dining and quite frankly the atmosphere there is simply heavenly!
This is the perfect setting for a family gathering or a group of friends wanting to unwind together in one of Provence’s most charming villages with so much to do within a short drive.
Fontvieille (1km) is a picturesque, quiet, and typically Provencal village, located at the foothills of the beautiful Alpilles mountains. You will find a whole array of activities in the area such as horse-riding, tennis, golf, air related sports, hiking and mountain biking courses. The local Monday market, numerous wine domains and olive fields will delight you and make you discover a world of extraordinary gastronomy with local produce.
The village is also home to one of the last remaining Provencal windmills: the Moulin de Daudet named after the French author Alphonse Daudet which has now been turned into a museum displaying some of the work and photos of the author.
Summer evenings are also exciting with numerous festivals and events in the area which include Les Antiques de Glanum in St Rémy de Provence, theatre in Avignon or opera in Aix in Provence to name but a few.
At the heart of an area full of history with numerous Roman sights to visit and explore including the famous Pont du Gard aqueduct just 32km away and the towns of Nîmes, Arles and Avignon are all within easy reach.
Other historical places of interest include the Roman remains of the Aqueduc de Barbegal (4km), Arc de Triomphe de Glanum (17km) but also more recent buildings such as Abbaye de Montmajour (6km), Chateau de Tarascon (10km) and Chateau de Beaucaire (11km). Other places of interest and within an hour’s drive include the medieval walled town of Aigues Mortes and Grau du Roi in the magnificent Camargue, Europe’s largest river delta famous for its pink flamingos, black bulls, and white horses.

The village is perched in isolation on top of a natural plateau, an ideal setting for observing the surrounding land and of course used as protection. This could explain why the site has been inhabited all the way back from prehistoric times until recent times. The soft limestone of the mountains has been used for decades to build towns and villages. Over fifty years ago Les Baux de Provence were placed under the protection of the Ministry of Culture and the Environment. Just over twenty years ago Les Baux de Provence became listed among The Most Beautiful Villages in France and as an Outstanding Heritage Site in 2019. Nowadays you can stroll along the village and discover its ruined castle and streets of abandoned houses, a church, a museum, and small modern tourist installations. Arles (11km) Filled with Roman remains, colourful houses painted by Van Gogh, Arles has much to offer and is also the gateway to the Camargue. At the heart of the town is the famous amphitheatre which you can visit. There you will enjoy plays, concerts, and the famous Feria d’Arles with bull fighting events happen during the summer months. Other monuments worth a visit include St Trophime church and cloister, Espace Van Gogh with beautiful garden made famous by the artist, Roman theatre a stone’s throw from the amphitheatre and just outside Arles the Abbaye de Montmajour. Avignon (31km) Avignon, on the banks of the Rhone, is probably best-known these days for the children’s song – Sur le Pont d’Avignon. But for several decades in the 14th century, it was the capital of Christendom, after Pope Clement V moved his court here to avoid the chaos in Rome. The legacy of that papal schism can be seen today in the city’s UNESCO-protected architecture, including the vast Palais des Papes. The nearby village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the site of a now-ruined castle built by a later pope and still produces acclaimed red wines. The city’s intact ramparts and pedestrianised centre lend Avignon a small-town, medieval feel. Yet each July, the city goes totally 21st century, as thousands of visitors descend for a contemporary performing arts extravaganza, the Festival d’Avignon. Pont du Gard (32km) The Pont du Gard is a famous Roman aqueduct, UNESCO World Heritage Site and icon of the south of France. It supplied water to Nimes for over five centuries, however by the 9th century it had started to fall into ruin. Much of the aqueduct is still intact today and it is a remarkable site. Nearly 300 metres long and almost 50 metres high, it comprises three levels of arches, progressively narrower at each level. Visitors can walk across the aqueduct to appreciate both the architectural achievement and the great views from the top. There is also a mile-long marked trail around the site so you can see the river and bridge from all angles. Nimes (37km) The city of Nimes which has France’s finest collection of Roman remains among which the most impressive Roman arena, Maison Carrée, Tour Magne, Temple de Diane and many more remains. To this day Nimes arena hosts spectacular events from musical concerts to bullfighting (killing-free may we add)! Nimes is a lovely city to discover with its tree-lined boulevards, numerous parks, cathedrals all worth a visit. Our favourites are the Quai de la Fontaine leading to the Jardin de la Fontaine where you can stroll along and enjoy a relaxing and very scenic walk. Orange (65km) Orange is yet again another Provence marvel with a superb Antic theatre where numerous musical events take place throughout the year. The theatre is 37 meters high and over 100 metres long! Interestingly it is the only Roman theatre in the whole of Europe to have conserved its stage wall. If you get the opportunity to attend an event you will never forget it! The city somehow has a feel of a Provencal village where you can walk around and enjoy the wonderful architecture and discover its charming treasures. Plenty to see in the surrounding countryside and the town of Fontvielle was within easy walking distance where there were many bars and restaurants to visit, many of which we tried, Col Mer and The Patio were excellent but the others , whose names I cannot remember were also good. The vineyard at L’Estoublon is well worth a visit. Thank you for providing us with a great house and I would highly recommend it and the service provided by Christophe. We will be using again.”
