Activity holidays in France

One of the most fantastic aspects of a family holiday to France is the huge range of activities you can choose from across the country.

From the well-known beaches of the Med and western coast, to the amazing ski resorts in the Alps to the spectacular gorges of the Ardèche gorge, there’s enough to keep even the most adventurous entertained on a family holiday.

Activity Holidays in the North & West of France

Families heading to France tend to head for the obvious locations and it’s not difficult to understand why. The north of France including Brittany and Normandy is famous for it’s beautifully scenic rocky coastline, with picturesque bays perfect for little ones exploring the rock pools.

If you are into your water sports then try sea kayaking, wind-surfing and even snorkelling (wet suit recommended!).  Horse riding is very popular in the north of France, you’ll find plenty of stables locally with hacks to suit all ages, from children to adults.

Head to the Centre for an activity holiday with a difference

Central France is an more of an undiscovered gem. Visit Limousin, the Auvergne and the Jura for some spectacular views and more exciting family holidays that perhaps the older children will enjoy.

From cycling to kayaking to horse riding, the more adventurous will feel right at home here.

Activity Holidays in the South of France

The south of France, including the Languedoc and the Cote d’Azur, encourage the water-sport mad jet set. Anything to do with water will be found here, from power boating to jet-skiing, windsurfing to kite-sufing, and of course every kind of sailing you can imagine.

Summer and Winter in the French Alps

The French Alps have an irresistible draw for the passionate skier or snowboarder.  The fabulous resorts, stretching for miles with a huge variety of runs for the beginner to the advanced makes it a very popular destination.  Find out more about ski holidays here.

The French Alps also have a lot to offer for summer holidays.  The temperatures are warm, usually between 24 – 28 degrees in July and August, with gentle breezes.   Mountain biking and road biking are popular, particularly the Tour de France routes.  Mountain biking is made easy for children with bikes being able to be taken on the ski lifts so that all the family can enjoy a ride down the mountain.
