What constitutes a great family holiday?

What makes for a great family holiday? It’s the ability for the grown-ups to relax, knowing that their children are safe and that there are plenty of opportunities to be happily entertained.

That’s why at France for Families we look at both aspects of a child-friendly holiday – quality accommodation where safety is key together with lots of information about keeping the whole family relaxed and entertained during their all-important break.

You can use this website to browse through all the regions of France, take a look at things to do and places to visit – the best attractions, most popular beaches etc. And then take a look at our recommended places to stay.

What makes a great holiday for your child? In our case, it’s been trying out new things, exploring wonderful (and sometimes strange French attractions!) and making new friends.

If you’re travelling with just one child then you probably know the holiday becomes easier if there is an opportunity for them to make friends.

Gites or holiday resorts provide perfect opportunities for the little ones to make friends. Some of the best holidays have either been places with small and intimate children’s clubs or on a gite complex with a swimming pool. Without forcing the issue, it’s amazing how a game of pool tag or a couple of swimming races can quickly encourage the kids to chat and make friends.

Teenager holidays to France

We’ve found that holidaying with teens works best when they are involved in the planning and there are certainly going to be some compromises along the way!

In our family, we agree that each of us gets to choose one activity that they would really like to do on holiday and then build on that.

For older children, a holiday in France may mean they want to have a go at surfing or bodyboarding, river canoeing or climbing, mountain biking or perhaps just lazing around a pool getting a tan. Find out what the priority is and then work from there.

France is a great destination for offering all of the above! Whether it’s a family holiday to the coast or inland then you will find the perfect place to follow your holiday passion.
