Description: Oceanopolis is an excellent marine life centre on the seafront in Brest. This is a big centre with three themed areas devoted to polar, tropical and temperate marine life. There’s a whopping 55 aquariums and 1,000 species to see. Highlights include the shark tank, a giant wall of coral and the topical greenhouse. There are lots of opportunities for hands on experience of sea creatures and close encounters – you really do get close to the marine life here!. Prices are very reasonable.

Location: Brest is on the north west coast of Brittany, follow the N165-E60 towards the centre of Brest and you’ll find Oceanopolis on the waterfront, between the Port de Commerce and the Port de Plaisance, near the main railway station.

Our recommendations: This is an excellent place for a rainy day.  However, we recommend getting there early as there is a good half day’s entertainment.  On nice days you can finish your day with a few hours on the adjacent beaches or marinas,  or take a boat trip to the Ile d’Ouessant, situated one hour to the west of Brest.  Once there you can get around by bike or minibus.

For the children: What can we say, Oceanopolis is designed for them!
